Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is now backwards compatible on Xbox One devices.
This 2010 entry in the famed Castlevania series was exclusive to Xbox 360 as part of Summer of Arcade for that year. It later came to PlayStation 3 in 2011 for North America and Europe and 2012 in Japan.
Unlike every other Castlevania game, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (abbreviated to HD, get it?) focuses on cooperative gameplay, allowing up to six players to fight their way through a classic 2D Castlevania castle. Players could select from famous Castlevania characters including: Alucard, Soma Cruz, Jonathan Morris, Shanoa and Charlotte Aulin. Additional characters and stages were added as part of DLC packs named Chapters, beginning with Chapter 7.
Castlevania: Harmony of Despair can be purchased on Xbox Live for $14.99 with each DLC pack for an extra character or stage adding an extra $1.99 to $3.99. While the PlayStation 3 version included local cooperative capabilities, the Xbox 360 version does not, meaning you will have to find friends online for the best experience.
Another entry in the series, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, was also added to the backwards compatible list on October 30, 2018. Season 3 of the Castlevania anime for Netflix was confirmed last year and can be expected to hit the streaming service sometime this year. Additionally Capcom’s Devil May Cry animated series might end up crossing over into Konami’s franchise according to producer Adi Shankar, calling it part of the same bootleg universe he often uses for his creative projects/adaptations. Meanwhile Symphony of the Night remains a staple of speedrun events everywhere, with the latest Awesome Games Done Quick run coming in at under 13 minutes.
