Spencer: Halo without Master Chief just isn't as 'centered' on what players want

We're not 100 percent sure what Microsoft Game Studios head Phil Spencer is trying to say in this quote from E3, but as far as we can tell, he's just happy that Halo 4 is returning the player to Master Chief's head. He says he wants to make sure that the new game "lives up to what I think gamers fell in love with," and for him, that means being the Chief again.

Spencer says Halo Reach "made more sense to you if you were a Halo fan. If you were new to Xbox 360, 360 is where you started playing on Xbox, you understood what Halo 3 was. ODST and Reach, maybe you weren't as centered." So, newcomers want -- and expect -- to play as the Chief, whereas fans of the franchise were fine with something new.

At any rate, Spencer's just trying to make it clear that Master Chief is coming back, in both the anniversary remake of Combat Evolved, and Halo 4 next year. Why couldn't you just say that, Phil?

HALO is NOT about the CHIEF its about a UNIVERSE!!!
its used to be about him but odst reach and wars opened the possibility's up for a more diverse and strong story!!!

the game play the graphics the weapons EVERYTHING is different but the story is the same.
and Halo: Reach does have something to do with halo 3. NO REACH NO CHIEF!!!

If reach did not make sense to you and you played all those you must be stupid. All the quote said was that it made more sense, not if you wanted the battle rifle or master chief. Choose a better quote next time.
People like you probably never played the other Halo games that's why you have to play Halo: Reach and than the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary but the Halo for me is Halo 1-4 not Halo: ODST that had nothing to do with the other Halo games and Halo: Reach that had nothing to do with Master Chief... i hate people like you cause you are a troll... someone who played Halo 1-3 will have a better understanding than you and they don't need to play any other halo game but Halo 4... HALO is a Ring not a planet so Halo: Reach was a Planet and was a story of it's own


Slaughter you are an idiot. Halo 1-3 should be MORE than enough to know what Halo: Reach was about. Halo: Reach was a story about how the other Spartans had recently discovered the appearance of the Covenant on planet Reach. They defended the planet until it was too much.

The ship that launched off at the end was the ship that Master Chief was flying in when he was frozen and woken up in Halo 1. How can you not understand that? And Halo: ODST was the story about what happened after the explosion in New Mombasa after the Chief followed the Covenant cruiser through the slip space hole.

Anyone who even played Halo 1 & 2 would know how the story goes. You just don't pay attention.

now thats of sidestorys like odst, between halo2 and halo 3 odsts were stranded/crashed into this place halo wars was before reach it was the basics than halo reach is fall of Spartans except master cheif then story takes of with master cheif in 1,2,and 3 and than 4 its like they did with star wars movies they arent in order by release! halo is a story of everything that happens not just with master cheif!

this is one of the reasons i stayed away from reach is because they were just going to put a bunch of random trash into a perfectly fine game called halo 3

Everyone stop comparing Halo 4 to Halo: Reach that is like comparing MW3 to Black Ops... It's being made by a different company, it was based on a different time zone, different settings and different characters... Halo: Reach has nothing to do with Halo 4... end of story
