The next consoles from Sony and Microsoft will not launch until three years' time, predicts GameStop.

Senior executives from the US retail giant made the claim during a series of investor meetings, according to financial research firm Baird.

A statement read: "Management does not expect new hardware consoles from Microsoft and Sony until 2014; however, a successful launch of Nintendo's Wii U in 2012 could add pressure to accelerate a hardware refresh.

"GameStop is also upbeat on the coming launch of Sony's PlayStation Vita handheld gaming device, which has a $249 price-point within the reach of many gamers.

"As for the motion controller launched a year ago, management indicated more software is needed to maintain sales momentum."

I think both the Xbox and PS3 are progressing fine. The Xbox 360 has been out for about 6 years now, and I think the market for them is going fine. Plus the graphics are fine the way they are in my opinion. Wii-U won't pressure them because (IMO) they are 2 completely different types of game systems.

I'm glad.. But I'm not spending another 500 bucks to buy new xbox... (just new dashboard)..... Hopefully maybe in 2015

I'm glad it's not coming out for a few more years.
I'm not quite ready for my 1000's of pounds worth of Xbox 360 and PS3 games and DLC to be rendered useless because of a new console and online network.
