Activision lodges complaint over fake Modern Warfare 3 site

Website ModernWarfare3.com used to redirect to Battlefield 3's website. Pretty funny! Modern Warfare 3 publisher Activision was not amused.

Before that, the site hosted anti-Call of Duty rants like this:

Modern Warfare is crap. On November 8, 2011, the most over-hyped first-person action series of all-time returns with the copy and paste sequel to the lackluster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. ModernWarfare3.com is currently offline as Activision filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum, seeking to "transfer the registration for the Domain Name".

The domain's owner was a mystery, because it was registered via proxy. When the site's misdirect was first discovered, some thought it was ruthless trolling by Battlefield 3's publisher EA. However, EA told Kotaku that it did not own the site.

Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 are two big, modern first-person shooters going head-to-head this year.

As website Fusible pointed out, Go Daddy removed the domain's privacy settings, revealing the identity of ModernWarfare3.com's domain holder. The domain holder is Florida's Anthony Abraham.

Canceling privacy settings is one way the service provider deals with UDRP (Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy), hence Abraham's sudden unmasking.

This isn't the first time for one of Abraham's sites to get a public internet airing. Back in 2008, a report on website RipoffReport wrote that a Zune music download site registered by Anthony Abraham was "the epitome of a scam in every way". The contact address and email is the same as the contact info for ModernWarfare3.com.

Comb I read somewhere that the domain name was purchased a few years ago. In all honesty, that person deserves to keep it because he payed for it all that time ago. And look at Activision, not even offering to pay for the name, nope gotta go straight to the law.

The only reason is that BF really had no right bad mouthing the competition. I know that iit influences sales but still its messed up calling the CoD fanbase a bunch of fanboys.

aiekoconception thank god.... friggin tired of the BF3 people trolling on MW3 they are 2 diff games stop comparing them or fighting over them everyone know BF3 has more sales so calm down and put your pacifier back in your mouth.

I love how, before Battlefield 3 put out solid gameplay footage, everyone was saying MW3 was better. Now that Battlefield 3 looks amazing, and MW3 looks like crap. They resort to saying something like, "THey are two different games, you can't compare them." In reality Mr. CoD Fan/Fanboy, you CAN compare them, both games try to acheive the same thing. They both try to be a fun, realistic, and successful FPS game. CoD and BF go about doing that differently, but they both are trying for the same thing. Only one series among these two is Fun, Somewhat Realistic, and balanced when it comes to multiplayer. That series is none other than Battlefield. Specializing in online warfare since 1942. ;)

I love how the people making battlefield 3 said that you cannot compare the two games. And no I'm not a CoD fanboy or a BF fanboy.

I love how you say CoD is trying to be realistic, however it is an Arcade style shooter, while BF is more about war simulation. CoD is meant for fast paced high action gameplay on small to medium sized maps. BF is about WAR SIMULATION, creating a realistic war experience. Big maps, tactical strategies, and realistic environments. CoD is in no way trying to simulate war like battlefield is. They are two completely different games trying to accomplish different things.
Will you guys just leave it alone, jesus. Get a Dam life and stop arguing over a VIDEO GAME. At least wait till the both games are out so you can compare them accurately.
