PlayStation Now Has Reached 700,000 Users

PlayStation Now has slowly built up quite a following ever since the ability to download titles was added to the service.
PlayStation Now has continued to grow after its incredibly rocky start. While it hasn’t reached the success of its rival in Xbox Game Pass, the PlayStation subscription service has slowly gained an audience and much of that can be attributed to the addition of being able to download offered titles last year.

Since the service launched way back in 2014, the service has grown about 40% on average each year. PlayStation Now has now reached about 700,000 subscribers.

In a recent earnings announcement, CFO Hiroki Totoki heavily credits the addition of downloading titles to the recent success of the service. He stated: “Since the launch of this download service. Gameplay time per user has grown significantly to the point where gameplay time on downloaded PS4 titles is double that of streamed titles, a trend which has contributed to higher user engagement with, and retention on, the PS Now service.”

I toyed around with the streaming stuff early on when the service was first made available, and it was not good. Not good at all. The latency was incredibly high even with a solid internet connection and the infrastructure to support high-quality games streaming just was not there. So, right from the get-go PlayStation Now gave me a bad taste. But, I have to be honest, the service has built up quite a list of downloadable titles. I have loved my time with Xbox Game Pass so far, so I might jump into PlayStation’s own service as well. While some might not like the future of subscription-based services, I have dived right in.
