As reported by TechRaptor, and uncovered using the Steam ID Finder, Steam reached the one billion after 15 years with the creation of an account named “amuseddragonfly.” The number of the Steam account is indicated by the finder using “steamID3.” “amuseddragonfly” is marked “[U:1:1000000000]” indicated the grand achievement. The number of Steam accounts is, of course, rising all the time. As of writing, the current user figure appears to be 1000886398 with the account belonging to a user named “temka20030910.”
Valve announced the 90 million active users figure in January of this year. The company also noted that the service had 47 million daily active users, 18.5 million peak concurrent users, and 1.6 million new purchasers per month. While all the user statistics reported today are impressive, it should be noted that Valve does include accounts which are potentially spam, bot, and alternate accounts.
Valve, and its Steam platform, has faced an increasing range of challenges over the past year. After the emergence of Epic Games Store exclusives, Valve was tasked with tackling review bombing of the game’s in question on Steam. Last month, Valve had to take a stance regarding its hands-off approach to moderating content on Steam. The company ended up removing a game named “Rape Day.” Valve has also been accused of EU geo-blocking on its gaming platform.
Along with today’s figures, the news hasn’t been all bad for Valve. The company announced its first VR headset, the Valve Index as well as receiving confirmation recent Bethesda titles would be coming to Steam.
