It has been announced today that the design of Sonic in the upcoming live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be altered. This news comes from the director of the film, Jeff Fowler, in a tweet which you can read below:
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear... you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be... #sonicmovie #gottafixfast 🔧✌️
— Jeff Fowler (@fowltown) May 2, 2019
It shows that Fowler is committed to create the best vision for this movie that he and the rest of the film crew can make.
This news follows after the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog that came out earlier this week. Most viewers took to the internet to critique the blue hedgehog’s design. This included several online artists redesigning the character to what they thought would work a little better for the movie. The recommendations were to give him a more animated look or more based off the video game design. While most people came quickly to pan the movie, some (like myself) are looking forward to it.
As of right now we do not know what the new design will be, nor do we know if this change will affect the film’s release date later this year.
Sonic the Hedgehog is set to release November 8, 2019. The film stars James Marsden, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and Ben Schwartz as Sonic.
