Valve is making its own Dota Auto Chess

4.3
Valve has confirmed it won’t be able to work with Dota Auto Chess creators, but will instead develop its own version in house.

Dota Auto Chess, the popular Chinese Dota 2 mod, has been gaining more and more ground as of late. Dota 2 creator Valve, too, noticed this sharp rise in popularity and deiced to invite developer Drodo Studio over for a conversation.

Unfortunately, the two companies “came to the conclusion” that they could not work directly with each other “for a variety of reasons,” Valve wrote in a blog post. Instead, Valve will build its own standalone version, and so will team Drodo.

As you might already know, the Chinese team has also been working on its own spin-off for mobile – simply called Auto Chess, whose beta is available now. Valve is even allowing Auto Chess players to migrate their progress over from the mod to the mobile game.

As work continues on both of these standalone versions, the main Dota Auto Chess mod will continue to receive updates from Drodo.

The success of Dota Auto Chess helped boost Dota 2’s concurrent player numbers on Steam in the past few months, having now reclaimed the top spot from PUBG.

coolbunny1234 As someone who didn't even know that Dota chess existed, I can't imagine this will fare very well.

Well it just depends if it will be as bad as another artifact or what. Auto Chess is very well made but its limited to the few devs it has and the limitations on the use of the dota 2 assets. But I feel if they actually put the time into it and make a game worth playing with the same rules as the Chinese fan made gamemode, It will gain traction because its a great idea.
