Minecraft: Story Mode is coming to an end. The episodic point and click graphic adventure game, developed and published by Telltale Games in association with Mojang, will no longer be supported. Minecraft: Story Mode released the first five episodes of the game back in October 2015 and continued through March 2016, with additional episodes released as DLC mid-2016.
The game was released across multiple platforms including, Microsoft Windows, macOS, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, Apple TV, and even Netflix. Although Minecraft is a game enjoyed by millions and surpassed selling 176 million copies worldwide, the demise of Telltale ultimately caused this to happen to Minecraft: Story Mode as “its publisher is no longer in business, which unfortunately means that Minecraft: Story Mode will no longer be supported.”
Mojang staff posted on their website yesterday informing players about their decision. Players will have until June 25 to download all of the episodes they’ve purchased. “On behalf of the publisher, Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Games Series, Season 1 and 2 will no longer be supported on June 25th, 2019. If you have purchased these seasons, please download all remaining episodes prior to the service being discontinued in June,” the post reads.
“So if you own either season of Minecraft: Story Mode on Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Android, or iOS, you have until June 25th, 2019 to download the episodes. We’d recommend checking you have all the episodes downloaded!” their post concludes. Many of Telltale’s games are being taken off digital store shelves, which is a shame as they produced some of the most interesting adventure games of the decade.
