While we saw a bit of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition last night during Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference, Nintendo just revealed a bit more information on when exactly we can expect it during a new trailer for the game.
Dragon Quest XI Definitive Edition drops on the Nintendo Switch September 27, 2019.
The new trailer also detailed some of the improvements we can expect from this upgrade: an expanded storyline, more rideable monsters (featuring a slime bouncy ball), travel to past Dragon Quest worlds, a battle rush system, and the ability to switch between HD and 16-bit graphical styles. The definitive edition will also feature improved audio in the form of fully orchestrated field and battle music.
It’s not entirely clear if you’ll be able to switch between the two visual styles on the fly. We’ve seen how both styles look, but not the actual switch between the two. If mid-game switching is possible, the fluidity of that switch will be interesting to see considering the stark differences between the two.
