Sega announced today more news and gameplay for Project Sakura Wars will be coming on June 26 through a live stream. It’ll be held at 20:00 JST and last for around one hour and 30 minutes. The stream will be broadcast on YouTube and Periscope. The Periscope link will be published on Sakura Taisen‘s official Twitter slightly before the stream begins.
The stream is officially named the “Sakura Taisen Imperial Communication Department’s Broadcast”. This stream will be MC’ed by Yohei Azakami, the seiyuu of Project Sakura Wars protagonist’s Seijuro Azakami. He will be accompanied by professional MC Misuzu Araki. Project Sakura Wars Producer Tetsu Katano will obviously be present as well.
Sega also confirmed that more streams like these will be coming regularly to introduce more info. I personally hope they won’t fall for the bait and do their own Virtual YouTuber, as making one actually takes a lot of time and resources, which could instead go towards the game. Plus, a franchise as big as Sakura Taisen doesn’t really need the buzz a VTuber would bring in the first place. Ever since the stream’s YouTube went live, there have been Japanese fans constantly discussing in its chat, even though it starts in a week.
Along with commenting on the Sumire thing, Sega’s Toshihiro Nagoshi mentioned weeks ago how ”we’ve only seen 20% of the interesting bits of Project Sakura Wars”, so I’m particularly looking forward to this stream. Just like what I do with Super Robot Wars or Rune Factory stream, I’ll be writing an extensive summary of it.
Project Sakura Wars is known in Japan as Shin Sakura Taisen, or New Sakura Wars. The game will launch on PS4 next winter in Japan, and next spring in the west.
