Dying Light Developer is Still Working on DLC for the Original Game

Even though Dying Light 2 is launching next spring, developer Techland is still developing content for the original game.

With Dying Light 2 launching next spring, you’d assume it’s all hands on deck to get the game out by then. However, in a new Gamesindustry.biz interview, Tymon Smektala, Lead Designer at Techland, said a small team at the developer is still making DLC for the original game.

Smektala discusses the game’s ’10-in-12′ campaign, which saw the developer releasing 10 pieces of DLC over the course of 12 months in 2018. Additionally, Smektala said they had a meeting the night before E3 where they discussed their desire to add more content to the first Dying Light.

“We supported the game for two reasons,” said Smeltala. “The first is that we believe in our community, and we really believe they will be the most essential part for us getting the word out about Dying Light 2. The other thing is that supporting a game like Dying Light for such a long time allows us to be slightly more crazy, and slightly more creative with some things, and also test some ideas and gameplay elements that we’re not sure about.”

“If we had an idea we’re unsure about for Dying Light 2, we could mimic that idea to some extent in support of the first game and see how it works,” Smektala continues. “We can see what people find attractive and what’s unattractive to them.”

As Dying Light continued to get more content, its sales numbers increased. The interview mentions how the game sold more copies in 2018 than 2017, and then from 2017 to 2016. With a small team working on the new DLC, it’s unclear when it’ll launch.

Dualshockers’ own Tomas Franseze got to check out Dying Light 2 at E3 this year and based on what he saw, it’s looking to be more visceral and ambitious than the original. Additionally, Tomas interviewed Producer Kornel Jaskula and Lead Designer Tymon Smektala all about Dying Light 2.

Daniel Dying Light is one of my favourite games, a DLC for this is not worth the hastle tbh, The new game is coming out next year which im hyped for but it will be a waste of time creating content for that game. Maybe add some new weapons and items but not a whole new DLC.

Understand they are using the first Dying Light as a testing ground for some new styles in the second game. It's not full focus on DLC for the first game and in all honesty this is good that their taking time to appease the player first, every studio should envy this.
