The next phase of Destiny 2 was set to take shape next month beginning with Shadowkeep, but it seems as though that will no longer be the case, at least by a couple of days.
In a new update shared by Bungie today, it was announced that Destiny 2: Shadowkeep has now been delayed by just a couple of weeks. Rather than releasing on September 17 as was planned, the expansion’s release has now been pushed out by two weeks to October 1. In addition, New Light, the new free-to-play iteration of Destiny 2, has been pushed back to this same date as well.
As for the reason for the delay, Bungie simply said that it needed to work on things just a bit longer. “Being independent means that the future of Destiny 2 is entirely on our team. It also means that we’re agile enough to choose to do what’s best for the game and our players, even if it’s the hard choice,” Bungie said in a new post on the studio’s website.
“This Fall is the first step on a journey for what our team wants Destiny 2 to become – a place for you and your friends to play anytime, anywhere; owning the action MMO and RPG elements that we love about the game; and crushing barriers to entry for friends. We just need a bit of extra time to take the first step.”
All in all, a two week delay really shouldn’t be that big of a deal. Even if you’re a massive Destiny fan and you want to get your hands on Shadowkeep sooner rather than later, two weeks is hardly any time at all.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC when it arrives. And for those on PC, Steam will also be the new home of Destiny 2 moving forward.
