Brutes, the new giant mechs that have come to Fortnite, have been a bit of a controversial addition to season 10. Others seem to not mind them while a majority of other players seem to not enjoy them very much. Well, in an official blog post from Epic, the mechs are here to stay in the game’s competitive mode, just with a tweak. However, plenty of people do not think that the update has changed much.
Per Kotaku, the common opinion for many Fortnite players is that the Brutes are pretty overpowered. Once inside them, players have the ability to take out buildings, player structures, and have much higher health. In the new update, Epic will also be adding a targeting laser to the mech’s missiles. This will give players an indication of if they are within the line of fire.
On top of that, they also confirmed that Brutes will stay in Fortnite’s competitive mode despite players that they are a way to overpowered. Epic stated:
“We’ve been monitoring the impact of the B.R.U.T.E. in gameplay and are investigating ways to enhance combat feedback when interacting with the vehicle. In v10.10, we will add a targeting laser that will show the direction the B.R.U.T.E. is aiming its rockets while they are being charged. This laser will have directional audio to help indicate when it’s being pointed at you, even if you’re behind a structure. We’ve also fixed a few mobility bugs that was allowing players to exploit its boost mechanic.
The B.R.U.T.E. remains within the core game modes (Solo, Duos, and Squads), select Limited Time Modes, and in competitive Arena and Tournament play. We’ll communicate any future iterations to the vehicle as we’re continuing to investigate a few more areas where we can improve combat interactions.”
This led to some outrage over on Reddit. Some stating: “This is actually insane that they’re not changing it. I figured this would last a week, tops, once the challenges were over. I don’t even enjoy winning this way, let alone losing.” An esports player from team Luminosity, Nicks, stated: “I’m confused as what there is to investigate with the BRUTE… have you not seen the hundreds of tweets from your biggest creators and best players showcasing how unbalanced it is???”
Epic continuing on with the Brutes have been a little bewildering to me despite all the backlash from its players, both casual and professional. Hopefully, they will address these concerns in the next update.
