To celebrate the anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII‘s release in North America, Square Enix remade arguably the most iconic piece of artwork from said title using Final Fantasy VII Remake‘s graphics. Naturally the results are absolutely gorgeous, as the new art adds more details to the setting, the Buster Sword, and Cloud himself while maintaining the oppressive and dark atmosphere from the original piece:

To celebrate the anniversary we've remade one of the most iconic pieces of artwork from the original game, and now there are just under 6 months until the launch of #FinalFantasy VII Remake! #FF7R pic.twitter.com/OLjw4g6kOQ
And here’s the full size version of the artwork, in case you need it for your dedicated fan needs. I know I’m sure saving this beautiful image:
According to an interview with Director Tetsuya Nomura, Final Fantasy VII Remake will have changes to the Materia system. The Materia will be utilized the same as in the original. However, with the combat system being different this time around there will be Materia from the old game that included in the remake. Conversely there will be brand new Materia in the newer title.
Earlier this year Final Fantasy VII Remake was playable at both E3 and Gamescom. During the former event, Remake won Best of Show from Game Critics Awards. Meanwhile the game’s official Twitter account is dropping new images from the game here and there, like this one of the Shinra building. They also released new images of Midgar’s Sector 8 on the same Twitter account.
The title will release for PS4 on March 3, 2020. From what we saw so far, the game seems to be promising with a vast world to explore as well as a new combat system that still feels like Final Fantasy VII. You can pre-order the Deluxe or Standard edition on Amazon.
