Persona 5 Royal is slated to arrive in Japan later this month, but for those of us over in the west, we still don’t have a specific idea when we’ll be able to play it other than a broad 2020 window. However, further information on the game’s arrival has now potentially been given in a rather odd manner.
As spotted by Persona Central, a recent interview with Persona character designer Shigenori Soejima in Game Informer magazine has listed a date for when Persona 5 Royal will be coming to the west. The publication mentions that the game is slated to arrive in March 2020, with no specific date in the month given. This month of March would definitely be new information, as Atlus has yet to state a more specified window in a given month of 2020 just yet.

Game Informer doesn’t explain how it knows this information though, meaning one of two things. For starters, it could be a mistake, and GI never meant to list such a date. The other option though is that the outlet was informed either on or off the record about Atlus’ plans for the release of Persona 5 Royal and published such in the article. As of now, it’s not known which could be true, though.
To be perfectly blunt, we here at DualShockers haven’t been told anything on or off the record about this potential release window for Persona 5 Royal to corroborate the information. That said, March 2020 seems right, at least in my own head. The original Persona 5 released in September 2016 in Japan before later hitting the west in April 2017, so these spans of time are roughly similar to one another.
That said, if Persona 5 Royal does end up arriving in March 2020, then God help us all. This would mean that Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last of Us Part II, Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs Legion, and so many others would all be dropping in a span of 6-8 weeks. That’s bonkers.
Still, the sooner Persona 5 Royal comes west, the better. We’ll keep you updated on the game’s release plans here in the west as more information comes to light.
