Sony announced on the official PlayStation website today that PS4 console will no longer be supporting Facebook integration starting as of this day, October 7. The sharing functionality will be removed as part of a new update for the platform.
Here’s all that was shared by Sony of the update:
Starting on October 7th, 2019 Facebook integration will no longer be supported on the PS4 system. This includes Facebook’s share features such as posting gameplay and trophy activity and using the friend finder feature. We apologize for any inconvenience.
The move is a bit strange at face value, but it seems that Sony is cutting ties due to how Facebook gathers data. Personally speaking, I’m a bit bummed that the feature is being removed as it’ll make my job harder. A lot of pics that I end up posting in articles here on DualShockers were captured and then posted privately to my own Facebook account, especially for games we get pre-release. I know there are other ways to grab images if I need to, it was just nice and snappy to be able to throw them onto Facebook. Oh well, I guess.
Moving forward, you’ll still be able to post gameplay and pics onto Twitter if you want, assuming you have an account. The only problem is that Twitter is a cesspool of garbage that I wish we could eliminate from existence, but that’s a topic of conversation for another time.
