A little over a month before Bethesda and id Software was set to launch DOOM Eternal, it was revealed this morning that the game has now been delayed into 2020.
The official DOOM Twitter account shared the message this morning that announced the game’s delay. The launch has been pushed out by roughly four months with DOOM Eternal now arriving on March 20, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The Switch version has been said to launch after all other iterations of the game with no specific release date given just yet.
“Throughout the development of DOOM Eternal, our goal has been to deliver a game that exceeds your greatest expectations across the board,” said id Software in a statement accompanying the delay announcement. “To make sure we’re delivering the best experience — for DOOM Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish — we’ve made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020. We know many fans will be disappointed by this delay, but we are confident that DOOM Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is worth the wait.”
DOOM Eternal was likely my most-anticipated game for the remainder of 2020, so I’m personally pretty bummed about this one. If id Software needs more time to make the game phenomenal though, then I’m all for it. Bad games are bad forever, and whatnot.
That said, early 2020 just continues to get even crazier. DOOM Eternal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last of Us Part II, and Cyberpunk 2077 all drop within about two months of one another, which is bonkers. I don’t have enough time in my life to play all of these games, but I’m sure I’ll find a way to manage.
