Paradox Interactive has announced Surviving the Aftermath, the successor to Haemimont Games’ popular survival colony builder Surviving Mars, and there’s a teaser available to watch.
Surviving the Aftermath is fairly under wraps at the moment with just the below teaser and some minor details available. We do know that Surviving the Aftermath will have an Early Access period that will last for roughly one year and starts later this year for the Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Preview. This year will also be the period that it is exclusively distributed on the Epic Games Store for PC users.
Paradox Interactive is stating that it expects the game to be among the top ten games for revenue generated during its early access period with a majority of said revenue now secured thanks to the arrangement with Epic Games.
We also know that Surviving the Aftermath will land sometime in late 2020 and will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC for both the Epic Games Store and Steam. More details are due to be announced later this month on October 19 during the PDXCON 2019 taking place in Berlin.
Nikhat Ali, the Lead Producer behind Surviving Mars and Surviving the Aftermath claims that new mechanics are coming to the upcoming successor:
“With the staggering growth of Surviving Mars this year we knew we had something special and we wanted to find new ways to utilize survival management gameplay, Surviving the Aftermath gives us the opportunity to experiment with these mechanics in new and interesting ways that we think our players will love.”
Paradox state that since the Green Planet expansion for Surviving Mars, the game saw eight times the amount of monthly active players. This surpasses the peak of players at launch by 19%.
The announcement of Surviving the Aftermath will see Surviving Mars and all available DLC head to the Epic Games Store on October 10. This will kick off as part of Epic’s Free Games Program and will allow players to download the base game and Space Race DLC for free from October 10 until October 17. The game will then be available after the free period for $29.99.
Additionally, Paradox Interactive is introducing a modding contest to celebrate the launch onto the Epic Games Store. The contest will allow modders to create new animals for the Project Laika expansion, standing them a chance of winning $100. Ten winners will be selected overall, with Paradox Interactive selecting five winners, and the community selecting the other five. Earlier this year Paradox Interactive and Microsoft created Paradox Mods to allow modders to create mods for games such as Surviving Mars.
Surviving the Aftermath will launch in late 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC for the Epic Games Store and Steam. It will launch as an Early Access title on the Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Preview later this year.
