Hardsuit Labs and Paradox have today announced that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has been delayed from its previous Q1 2020 release window. The game does not yet have a new release target, but will launch later in 2020.
In a blog post, Hardsuit Labs’ Andy Kipling and Brian Mitsoda said that the team didn’t want to repeat the same mistakes made during the development of the first game. In order to make good on the ambitions of the project, a delay was necessary.
“There’s the responsibility to avoid some of the issues that plagued the first game, which was famously launched too early,” the developers wrote. “Over the last few months, it became clear that to stick to our original date would risk repeating that mistake. We won’t do that.”
Part of this is also the result of Hardsuit Labs’ internal push to expand the capabilities of the team and improve the development process, which the blog post says wasn’t enough to allow Bloodlines 2 to hit the previous release target.
“This hasn’t been an easy- nor our first choice. Throughout 2019 we have been improving our processes and growing our teams, however it soon became clear that this alone won’t allow us to deliver the quality we want at the date we promised.
“Your feedback was invaluable in this. It helped us give the proper weight to what we saw, as well.”
Hardsuit Labs is bringing Bloodlines 2 to PDXCON this weekend. Though the game won’t be playable, more development details will be shared on the Announcement Show on Saturday.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
