Battlefield 3 vs. Modern Warfare 3 war rages on

EA and Activision have been trading barbs for a while now concerning their respective shooter titles, Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which will go head-to-head this fall. Recently, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick doubted Battlefield's presence on consoles, and EA boss John Riccitiello fired back, saying Activision feels "threatened" by Battlefield. During our meeting with Riccitiello at E3, he went even further, telling us that he wants Activision's franchise to "rot from the core," and he thought the pre-announcement of the Elite subscription was a terrible idea.

What does "rot from the core" mean? Essentially, he's saying that Call of Duty has become a mass market phenomenon but that hard core gamers will recognize the quality of Battlefield vs. Call of Duty this holiday and will, he believes, gravitate towards Battlefield instead.


Riccitiello began, "The honest truth is I think Modern Warfare is going to be a really good game. I think that in a weird way it’s starting to feel a little to me like the Disneyland abstraction of a war game – a little bit jump the shark. So it feels a little bit like that to me. And I think there’s a market for that. I think our game is more authentic. It’s definitely going to do a lot of things better. Lighting’s better, physics is better, animations are better, particle effects are better, vehicles are better. I think there’s a lot of things to like about our product and I think it’s going to be a great battle."

"So headline number one, having a clash of the titans in entertainment [is great]. If you’re battling your cholesterol drug versus somebody else’s cholesterol drug, there are only so many people who need cholesterol drugs. The market is getting bigger, but it’s all about cholesterol. So the market divides. Your chips versus my chips. Maybe it gets bigger. But this is great for consumers. When two titans go up against each other, and battle each other for how you’re going to spend your entertainment time and dollars, it doesn’t get better than that. So as a headline, I think this is the best time in the game industry. I love when this happens."

Battlefield 3 has already won many awards. Some of the Big ones are E3 Best Multiplayer and E3 Best Game of 2011. Check it out yourself.

Okay Call of duty is just one expensive Expansion Pack. Battlefield 3 is going to be top dog this year easily.

Because Cod aren't that immature. They know its bad for the game/fans. EA are making themselves look desperate, they just want publicity so they can maybe get 1/6 of the sales mw3 will get. xD

They are starting to embarrass themselves now.

I'm sorry, but your communist views imply that you HAVE to buy both, otherwise you are without money. This is incorrect.

There are people that have had terrible experiences with CoD (such as myself) who have had to face multiple host migrations, hackers & whiney little kids over the past few iterations of Call of Duty. Now who's going to say that MW3 will be any different? Treyarch, before their release of Black Ops, stated that their game will be unhackable. My point being, a lot of people won't want to buy a game expecting the same indifferences from Black Ops. There WILL be lag, there WILL be hacks and lastly, there WILL be whiney little children. You can keep saying that people won't buy both because they are poor, but until you justify this with evidence, it is an invalid statement.

TTG_Minecraft_101 Honestly to tell you the truth even though I love COD because of quick scoping and what not. But once i saw the video on Battlefield it blew my mind! This game is going to have amazing graphics! Also, COD does actually repeat there games over and over again but I'm still a COD fan but i expect a lot better from COD now because i can tell from right now there selling are going to drop down rapidly and Battlefield is going to sell pretty quick! I also think that they should not come out with a game every year they need to wait at least 2 years or so to take out another COD game. Overall, I think that Battlefield has amazing graphics and I still love COD also I'ts just that they need to come up with new and in prove graphics and guns. They are both amazing games and I think they both will be successful.

Yes but what Brown is actually right what Eric wants for everyone to get along and not take shots at each other basically hold hands and sing (metaphor get over it) will never happen in a competitive environment like a business like this it's just not going to happen, and regardless of whether or not they have different gameplay they fall under the same genre FPS so yeah.

I've personally been a COD fan but I'm not rushing out to buy MW3 like BF3 ever since CoD4 (In my eyes) they have been getting worse.

I'm getting BF3, Assassins Creed: Revelations, Silent Hill: Down Pour, Skyrim, and Naruto Generations (when it comes out) I'm just going to let my friends buy it and tell me what they think on MW3 because to me it's just going to be more of the same.
