Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is outselling Black Ops 4

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has arrived. So far, it looks like it’s been warmly welcomed by the critics, with the CoD: Modern Warfare scores broadly sitting near the high end of the scale, and if sales numbers are anything to go by, it looks like players are pretty excited about the game, too – Modern Warfare’s first week sales have already beaten those its predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 achieved at launch in the UK charts.

According to GamesIndustry, the game has rocketed to the number one spot in the UK charts in its first week since launch (week ending October 26), and in terms of physical unit sales, it’s shifted 39% more than Black Ops 4 did in its own opening week. It’s worth noting that these figures are only derived from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sales so far (accounting for 62% and 38% of sales, respectively), and digital sales figures are also not yet available, but it’s an interesting indication of how strongly the game’s performing so far.

According to the site, these sales haven’t quite hit the number Call of Duty: WWII achieved back in 2017, but when PC and digital sales become clear (hopefully) very soon, perhaps we might see Modern Warfare get closer to that figure. We’ll update the story when these arrive.
