The announcement was made on the game’s official Twitter, with a short trailer of two legends standing back-to-back in active combat. After season 2 featured a brief solo mode, Respawn is experimenting further by having a duos mode for the currently-running season 3. No specific details were shared, so we don’t know how the match-making will work exactly.
Perhaps it’ll be like Fortnite Duos, where teams of two can enter as normal, and if you’re playing alone, you can be randomly paired up, or play solo-duo, where you take on all the other tag-teams. Or, it could take after PlayerUnkown’s BattleGrounds, where one can’t play without a partner at all in Duos. Given that Apex Legends is already very team-oriented, it might skew towards the latter, and keep any solo play for limited time events. There is a variation on solo involving zombies currently running as part of the Halloween event called Shadowfall, but that ends on November 5, right when Duos is set to open.
A major Apex Legends milestone was hit yesterday when it was revealed the game had garnered some 70 million players globally. This was on the trot of Apex Legends being part of the line-up for EA’s return to Steam, coming to the store sometime in 2020.
Starting next week, for a limited time, it takes ✌.
