Steam Cloud Gaming references found in developer site update

Valve is working on something called Steam Cloud Gaming.

Steam’s developer-only portal has received a code update that references something called Steam Cloud Gaming. According to code unearthed by SteamDB, Valve is making an addendum to its terms with developers that will cover the supposed service.

The Github link above includes several elements common in online agreements, such as requiring certain fields to be filled in, limiting characters and standard error messages.

“Thank you for signing the latest Steam Cloud Gaming Addendum,” one message reads.

This is only a code update, however, so the addendum in question has yet to go live for Steam partners. When code gets added to a website’s code base, it’s usually in anticipation of a public change, similar to how game names and other elements leak just before an official site gets revamped.

This doesn’t tell us much, other than Valve is working on a project dubbed Steam Cloud Gaming. The easy guess is that the company is planning to butt heads with Stadia and xCloud in game streaming, but the same name could also be a banner for a collection of features already available to Steam customers.

Indeed, Steam users can already stream their library of games to other devices not on the same network, though that requires an always-on PC and a connection with good upload speeds.

What goes on Steam partner sites is meant to be confidential, but you can bet that whenever this terms addendum goes live, someone is going to leak it.
