Google has announced that Founder's Edition owners can now send a Buddy Pass to a friend, granting them three free months of Stadia Pro.

Those who have the Founder’s Edition of the newly released Google Stadia are now able to invite a friend to try the new game streaming service for free as Buddy Passes start rolling out. The news was announced yesterday on the Google Stadia blog along with instructions as to how owners can invite their friends.

The Buddy Pass becomes available directly within the Stadia mobile app. Within that app, an envelope icon should be present which will allow the Founder’s Edition user to tap it and choose who to send it too. A copy of the code will be sent to the Founder’s Edition holders email address in case the code needs to be resent.

Those receiving the code for the Buddy Pass need to download the mobile app, redeem the code in the app, and then they’ll be able to set-up their new Google Stadia account. The person receiving the code must redeem it within three months. While the Founder’s Edition comes with the Google Stadia controller, the Buddy Pass doesn’t require the user to have a Stadia controller, instead, it allows them to use “many popular controllers” or a mouse and keyboard.

The Buddy Pass offers the user three months of Google Stadia Pro for free. Once those three months are up normal charges will apply, although should the user cancel the pro service, they’ll be able to play any games they’re purchased, but lose access to the free games they claimed while on Google Stadia Pro. More information about this was clarified the other day.

Yesterday it was confirmed that Destiny 2 and Samurai Showdown are the two free games available this month. which Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and Farming Simulator: Platinum Edition would be next month’s free games.

Normally, Google Stadia Pro would cost $9.99 a month and offers 4K/HDR streaming alongside 5.1 surround sound. It was to launch with other features, but Google explained exactly what features were going to be arriving at a later date.
