In a new interview with Xbox head Phil Spencer, he answers the burning question in everyone’s minds after the next-gen console was revealed during The Game Awards: can you lay the console down flat, or is it stuck standing upright?
According to Spencer: “The first thing I wanted to say is the [Xbox Series X’s] design works vertical or horizontal, just like the Xbox One S and Xbox One X. We think that it’s not our job to dictate the orientation of our console in your home. That is up to you.” Which is great news as setups and spaces vary greatly, so it’s important as ever to give gamers the choice to arrange their console according to their needs.
Spencer was also asked about his opinions upon seeing the Xbox Series X’s design for the first time and he stated that what he appreciated most is how little it stands out. That “despite its striking design,” the system doesn’t need to attention grab or be the focal point in a room but instead “fades into the background.”
He elaborated further on his thoughts: “Now it sits in my home [and] it just kind of goes away. It’s quiet, it sits on the shelf–to be fair, I have mine laying on its side–and just where it sits in my setup, it just goes away. And that’s exactly what I wanted it to do.” He went on to say that it does still convey its power to others, including his own daughters when they saw the console recently for themselves.
During the same game awards that revealed the name and design for the Xbox Series X, Xbox Game Studios announced that a sequel to Hellblade is now in development by Ninja Theory. Said sequel, called Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga, received a brief trailer that showed off some stellar graphics and an intriguing hint of the story.
