Third-person COD officially shelved

Remember that mysterious third person Call of Duty game? It now looks like it's unlikely to ever see the light of day.

The studio that was working on it, Sledgehammer Games, has confirmed that the project has been canned. And with Sledgehammer now one of the multiple studios working on Modern Warfare 3, it seems that the game has been abandoned.

"We came on board to make a third person action adventure game, in the Call of Duty franchise," Activision VP and GM and the founder of Sledgehammer Glen Schofield told Gamespot.

Sledgehammer’s Michael Condrey added: "We were working on it about six months. We had a prototype together that was pretty compelling. It looked really good".

The opportunity to work on the biggest thing in the industry with Infinity Ward, which has demonstrated that they know how to do exceptional software, was just an opportunity we couldn't miss.

"There is a lot of people on the team who have worked on Call of Duty before, who have worked on first-person shooters, so there is a lot of built-in knowledge about the FPS genre and a lot of passionate gamers."

uMpzz this would have just ruined the call of duty franchise if they did 3rd person and would probably be the dumbest mistake


not really. The head of sledgehammer games,
Glen Schofield, was the executive producer and creator of Dead Space, one of the greatest 3rd person games of 2008.

If they actually made a 3rd person game, not only would it be amazing, but it would of really put a little mix into call of duty. Probably the reason why it probably got canceled is because this game would of probably taken more money to make then it would sell. Because its 3rd person.

And BTW 3rd person team tactical is probably my favorite game type, i hope they at least add 3rd person in mw3
there is enough 3rd person shooters and it's a fact that 1st person shooters are more popular and people like it more... just look at MW2 it had 3rd person as a play list but not enough people played it.. Call of Duty has always been 1st person, that's like making Gears of War 1st person... LOL

Theres the definition. So he is actually correct. Capitalizing every beginning letter of every word does make you seem Dyslexic.

Third Person really wasn't my favorite when it was added to CoD. It probably wouldn't been pretty cool though. Just not the traditional CoD Series though.
