EA: We don’t expect Battlefield 3 to beat Modern Warfare 3

There has been a lot of mudslinging and smack talking between the heads of EA and Activision, where EA folks have repeatedly stated that Battlefield 3 is designed to take down Modern Warfare 3 and that Call of Duty will be over in 2-3 years. That’s EA when they’re speaking in general to create hype around their product.
However, the tone is quite different when they’re talking to investors and shareholders. EA CFO Eric Brown recently told a group of investors that they don’t expect Battlefield 3 to surpass Modern Warfare. Brown said:
“Just to be clear, the [Call of Duty] franchise did about 23 million units worldwide. We don’t expect to surpass them with this year’s Battlefield 3, just to be very clear.”
To borrow the phrase from Brown, “just to be very clear”, no one really expected Battlefield 3 to beat Modern Warfare 3 in terms of units sold, but it will most certainly give it a run for its money. Many industry analysts expect Battlefield 3 sales to top 10 million, and the game is off to a great start, if recent pre-order numbers are any indication: Battlefield 3 has been pre-ordered 1.25 million times to date, with a month and a half left until game launch.

Rozy EVERY BATTLEFIELD FANBOY PLEASE SHUT UP NOW! Even the makers of your game said MW3 will win in sales and if they win in sales that means it is better. Its like saying a ford focus is better than a chevy camaro. CoD will always outsell and be better then battlefield games.

You know realize by your logic, you are saying a ford taurus is better than a bugatti veyron.
I was looking through the comments to find his and was going to comment comparing the exact same thing, but i was gonna throw in a ferrari too...oh well

Kids on this site need to grow up. If you don't want to play a game, then don't play it, You don't need to get upset becuase other people choose to play it, I will buy both games. Their two different games. You can buy both games if you want too, even the developers of these games don't hate on the other games. robert bowling played Battlefield and liked it, and of course he likes MW3. Seriously just grow up.

There is a very low percent that bf will win because its a game that doesnt come out every year. Cod on the other hand does making it more popular. If BF came out every year and Cod took 2-3 years to come out, im sure the fight will be the other way around. BF will still beat in graphics, game play, and team work, but both will be good.

WTH are you talking about have you seen the graphics on BF3 and the gameplay. they're amazing. i think they are both great im getting the MW3 xbox and BF3 game so im good ^_^

However, what they are saying is that BF is a better quality game and will be a better game, it just won't sell as much. However, as time passes and BF gets the recognition it deserves, BF or some other game WILL pass CoD sales. CoD's just a fad. I hope this clears this up.

CoDs just a faze. It will be all done and over with soon. Some new game will replace it.

Eventually CoD is gonna **** up and make like a Halo lite becuase they ran out of ideas.

Not saying BF will beat it in the end but I'm just saying don't expect in 5 years for the same game to sell the most, it really could be any game.(I think Halo 4 is going to set Xbox records for sales IMO, atleast as good as Halo2 and 3 if not better.)
