PS5’s Unannounced Features Are Exciting For Metro Exodus Dev

4.2
Over at 4A Games, the studio best-known for the Metro series, CTO Oles Shishkovstov and his team are already hard at work on next-gen projects. With the PS5 and Xbox Series X on the horizon, Shishkovstov is excited about what he has seen so far from the PS5 and hints that there's much more people don't yet know about the next-gen console.

The PlayStation 5 started off 2020 by making a great deal of noise. The PS5 logo reveal broke an Instagram record, and since then details have slowly emerged about what this new console will be like. While the logo itself is nothing revolutionary, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jin Ryan stated that the goal is to have people instantly recognize the console as part of the PlayStation brand. Other aspects of the console are proving to be a little more exciting, as Oles Shiskovstov alludes to in a recent interview.

The 4A CTO spends a good chunk of the interview with Digital Foundry going into detail about how its work with ray tracing, a dynamic lighting technique, has yielded "spectacular results." While this alone is exciting—for those who look forward to next-gen graphical fidelity—Shishkovstov says that he is "more excited for not yet publicly revealed things." A statement like this leaves potential PS5 purchasers wanting to know more.

One of the most recent developments is word that the PS5 controller may detect sweat, heart-rate, and more—if Sony patents are to be believed. This is certainly a feature that would increase immersiveness, but is it what Shishkovstov is hinting at, or is there more?

The PS5 has to present a package impressive enough to entice PS4 owners to make the upgrade, and next-gen buyers to choose PS5 over the Xbox Series X. Coupled with news on the technology behind the next-gen console is what games are going to end up on that console. With Kojima Productions looking to align itself with the PS5, this represents another way for the console to set itself apart from the competition.

So as PS5 watchers wait to see what that crucial price point will be, if what Shishkovstov says is true, there are a number of features gamers don't even know about yet. More information on these purported features will likely be revealed in the coming months, as it's still a while until the console hits store shelves.
