Testing begins for PS4 firmware 7.50

PS4 owners who previously signed up to be notified of future firmware beta tests, have received a new message highlighting an upcoming firmware update: version 7.50.

Spotted by MP1st, Japanese users first shared the email on Twitter, before users in other regions received a similar message. According to one Resetera forum member, 7.50 doesn’t bring any major new features.

Instead, the firmware introduces “quality-of-life and performance fixes.” Those additions weren’t detailed in the email, but Sony doesn’t usually beta test firmware updates at this scale unless there’s something interesting being changed or added.

“Please note, system software 7.50 does not include any major consumer-facing features during the beta period. However, you will find smaller quality-of-life and performance fixes and we would still love for you to help us test overall performance and stability,” the email reads.

If Sony deems the new features big enough, we’re likely going to get a blog post explaining everything new in 7.50. Until then, however, we’ll have to rely on testers to spill the beans.

So far, some users have reported very minor updates to sorting options, as well as the arrival of the latest version of HDCP. We’ll bring you more details as they’re available.
