Activision has announced that over 6 million players jumped into Call of Duty: Warzone on its first day of availability. This is a big turnout, though hardly surprising.
By comparison, Apex Legend only managed to attract a comparatively much smaller 2.5 million players in the first 24 hours. Both Warzone and Apex Legends are, of course, free-to-play, but the former does have an advantage.
Warzone is available to existing Modern Warfare owners, so the 6 million figure is likely a mix of both free-to-play and paid players. Modern Warfare has done exceptionally well at launch, making over $600 million in three days. In fact, Modern Warfare players who have been grinding since launch actually have an advantage in Warzone.
What a day! 24 hours in and over 6 million of you have dropped into #Warzone.

Apex Legends was also a new IP that dropped out of nowhere. All that said, 6 million is a massive number. This is Call of Duty’s first properly free-to-play mode on consoles, too, which shows how healthy the brand is this many years in.
Infinity Ward has big plans for Warzone. The developer is looking to up the player count to 200, add bigger squads, and even new modes to keep things fresh for players. Until then, get to know what’s there today better with the help of our Warzone gameplay tips.
