With last month’s sparse release lineup, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare returns to the top of the United States NPD Charts in February 2020.
According to the sales data from the NPD Group, last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was the best-selling game in the United States for February 2020. It was followed by NBA 2K20, Grand Theft Auto V, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. The release slate was pretty barren for the month, so it isn’t too surprising a Call of Duty title is the top-selling game. The lack of games released also let Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot enjoy some more time in the top 5. Here are the top 20 best-selling games in the United States for February 2020 according to the NPD Group.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
NBA 2K20
Grand Theft Auto V
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
Mario Kart 8
Ring Fit Adventure
Madden NFL 20
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Minecraft
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Red Dead Redemption II
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Pokemon Sword
Just Dance 2020
FIFA 20
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Need for Speed: Heat
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
What actually makes this list interesting is that no February 2020 releases even made it to the top 20. In fact, the best performing new release was the Yakuza Remastered Collection, which topped at 33.
Looking at February 2020’s top 10 best-selling games by platform, it hardly deviates from the above listed. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, NBA 2K20, Madden NFL 20, and Grand Theft Auto V all crack the top 5 for both Xbox One and PS4; Xbox One lists Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 in the number three spot, while PS4 lists Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot in the number four spot. With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare only available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the Nintendo Switch’s best-selling game is Mario Kart 8 followed by Ring Fit Adventure, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Lastly, overall spending in the U.S. video game market is down in both the February trend and year to date numbers. The spending trend for February 2020 is at $755 million, a 29% decline from last February. The trend from year to date was at $1.4 billion, a 28% decline from 2019’s year to date spending trend.
