Doom Eternal has some incredibly heart-pounding, adrenaline-pumping action as you smash your way through hordes of hellish creatures. One of Doom Eternal’s difficulty modes is Nightmare, the hardest difficulty mode available, and it seems as if a disabled player is attempting to complete that mode after completing the Hurt Me Plenty difficulty. The success and determination has also garnered the attention of Hugo Martin.
A screenshot of a Facebook post reads, “I’m playing on Nightmare now and holy shit…this might take a while but I have to do it for science” they continue, “I want to be the first one-handed guy to beat Nightmare,”. The images paired up with the post show that the player not only completed the game on Hurt Me Plenty difficulty but also completed it using the Xbox Adaptive Controller.
Hugo Martin, creative director of Doom and Doom Eternal saw the post and not only liked it, but left a motivational comment, “You sir are a SLAYER! RESPECT!” it reads. There doesn’t seem to be a link to the actual post which leaves me wondering if this is some private Facebook group. However, it’s certainly an achievement for the player.
Disabled gamer in the FB group just beat DOOM Eternal on HMP with an adaptive controller!

The Xbox Adaptive Controller allows disabled players to reconfigure the controls to suit their limitations, in this case, it seems as if the player has the controller set up on the floor, thus controlling Doom Eternal with their feet. It also allows numerous buttons and switches to be plugged into its many ports allowing for a diverse range of input styles.
It’s also important to point out that in stories such as these, we shouldn’t use one disabled player as an example for every player — I’m looking at you commenters with the “Lol, git god” mentality. While this particular player uses the “Git Gud” phrase themselves, other disabled player’s limitations vary and what is possible for some is not possible for others. It’s still a grand achievement to see and hopefully, they master the following Ultra-Violence and Nightmare difficulties.
Doom Eternal is available for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Stadia.
