With no warning at all, PlayStation today revealed the PS5‘s official controller design, which is called the DualSense.
Here are the initial pics of the DualSense released from Sony
In general, the DualSense seems to be a stark contrast from PlayStation’s past two controllers, the DualShock 3 and 4. While the thumbstick of the DualSense are still parallel to one another, the actual design and shape of the controller is now much more similar to that of the Xbox One’s model. The initial model we have seen also features a mix of colors, with white being the primary and black being secondary. Blue light still can be seen illuminated from the center of the controller, too.
As for how DualSense is changing compared to the DualShock 4, there are actually quite a few notable changes. Haptic feedback is now present in the DualSense in addition to adaptive triggers on the L2 and R2 triggers. Additionally, the touchpad is once again returning, although the Share button has been left in the dust. In its place, however, is a new “Create” button that will let you share content with others. A built-in microphone and longer battery life are other new features of DualSense, too.
PlayStation also made sure to mention that this controller is now officially shipping out to developers around the world and has been finalized. Because of this, Sony as though it could now share the controller’s look with fans.
Here’s Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan on the DualSense and what it represents for the PS5:
“DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5. The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.”
Obviously, there’s a lot to take in with this new controller. Knee jerk reactions from those eagerly awaiting the PS5 seem to be all over the place right now. How do you feel about the DualSense, though? Let us know down in the comments.
