160,000 Nintendo Switch accounts have been broken into

4.3
Around 160,000 Nintendo Switch accounts have been breached, potentially putting customers at risk for unauthorized purchases and other problems. The good news is that you won’t have to worry about any nefarious Nintendo eShop purchases — Nintendo has got you covered.

Recently, there have been some concerns about a potential breach of Nintendo Switch user accounts. A statement on Nintendo’s UK website has some of the details regarding the breach.

What is Nintendo’s response to the 160,000 breached Nintendo Switch accounts?

Logging into a Nintendo Account with a Nintendo Network ID is now discontinued.

Anyone whose account is suspected to have been compromised will be notified to reset their password.

The company’s Japanese website has further information (via Nibel). They advise that anyone who notices an unauthorized purchase get in touch with Nintendo and it will get the problem sorted out.

For now, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to set a new password for your Nintendo account and set up two-factor authentication.

9nty That's a lot of accounts to be broken into and that's scary, just shows how easy it can be broken into if you don't have F2A for your Nintendo account, for the eShop purchases it's nice to see Nintendo protecting their users in that way.

I feel like multi-authentication is the way to move forward for maximum security, it's just a pain sometimes and time hassle... but that's the trade off I guess.

That's actually quite a lot of accounts man, it's a shame, they could of provided more security measures.

Forest Forcing 2FA on users sounds great in reality for security, but for the average consumer they will end up getting locked out of their accounts more often then not. I deal with 2FA at work for a lot of our customers, and it takes a lot of learning for some of these employees. Most of them have had to get their 2FA setup again after losing their phone and not having a backup.

Also, these accounts are from 2012 and earlier when these types of extra measures were not that common.

2FA is kool and all but I feel like it wouldn't work as well since little kids would probably end up with a locked device if they **** around and break their phone that has the 2FA.

Their security is clearly trash. Step it up Nintendo.

Very true it was early on and this wasn't very popular then. I think it is definitely worth the time to learn though how to use this and how to stay safe with it meaning not losing your password and staying protected.

Nintendo needs to provide better security for their users. Everyone should have 2FA on. I wish it was a requirement so people actually would be forced to do it.

Need better security and need to have all uses use two step verification.
