In a year that has proven to be difficult for developers all around the globe due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CD Projekt Red today announced that it will again be pushing back the release of Cyberpunk 2077 by a few weeks.
Revealed in a new statement on social media, Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed from its September launch date and is now planned to arrive on November 19, 2020. This is the second such time that CD Projekt Red has delayed the game this year, with it originally being slated to arrive in April.
The reason behind the delay, as explained by CD Projekt Red’s head of studio Adam Badowski and company co-founder Marcin Iwinski is that the game just simply won’t be ready in time. “Those of you who are familiar with the way we make games know that we won’t ship something which is not ready,” CD Projekt Red’s statement simply said. “Our intention is to make Cyberpunk 2077 something that will stay with you for years to come. In the end, we hope you understand why we did what we did.”

While still needing more time to finish the project, it was clarified that Cyberpunk 2077 is complete when it comes to content. That said, the title still needs further polish, balance tweaks, and bug fixes. “A huge world means a huge number of things to iron out and we will spend the additional time doing exactly that,” the statement read.
The new launch date for Cyberpunk 2077 is a bit intriguing since it will now seemingly arrive closer to the launch of both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. While only confirmed to release on PC and current-generation hardware at the moment, the game will be backward compatible with the Xbox Series X specifically and will promote the platform’s Smart Delivery feature. Whether or not new iterations of the game will be revealed for proper next-generation platforms remains to be seen.
Even though this delay is surely a disappointment for many, we should be seeing a whole lot more of Cyberpunk 2077 soon. CD Projekt Red is set to host a new Night City Wire live stream a week from today on June 25 which should show off the game in greater detail.
