The figure includes versions of the game published by Activision and Garena, which holds the rights to distribute developer Tencent’s mobile and PC games in Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore.
Developed by Tencent’s Timi studio, the game brings together maps, modes, weapons and characters from across the Call of Duty franchise, including the Black Ops and Modern Warfare series.
Having launched on October 1, 2019, Call of Duty Mobile took a little over eight months to hit a quarter of a billion downloads. During the same timeframe, Fortnite for mobile reached 78 million players and PUBG Mobile attracted 236 million players.
Activision’s free-to-play title has generated almost $327 million in player spending to date.
“This is 78 percent more than the amount generated by PUBG Mobile worldwide during the same period after it began monetizing in April 2018, and about 83 percent of what was spent in the iOS version of Fortnite in the same duration post-launch,” Sensor Tower reports.
Call of Duty: Mobile was installed over 150 million times across iOS and Android devices in the three months following its worldwide release, according to Activision.
During Activision Blizzard’s fourth quarter earnings call in February, CEO Bobby Kotick said mobile is now the publisher’s “largest” platform.
Call of Duty Mobile Season 7, Radioactive Agent, launched earlier this month with a new Tunisia multiplayer map and an expanded battle royale map.
Activision confirmed on Sunday that it will release Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer map Highrise for Call of Duty Mobile “soon”. The map is also reportedly coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
