While Marvel might be the king of superheroes at the box office, DC and Batman are clearly giving their video game sales a run for their money. Twitter user Timur222 discovered through the LinkedIn profile of a Warner Bros’ employee that the sales of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham City reached a whopping 12.5 million copies sold and amassed $600 million in revenue.
The last public posting of Arkham City’s sales came in February of 2012, when GameSpot reported that the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum had sold six million copies within four months of its release date:

According to the aforementioned LinkedIn profile, Michael Elkind worked on Arkham City in Global Marketing from 2010 to 2012. It’s not clear if the 12.5 million copies sold and $600 million show the lifetime sales of the game or they were all generated In 2012. Either way, that’s an impressive feat for any game.
Many consider the first two Arkham games to be the best superhero games to date with a third, Batman: Arkham Knight, faltering slightly, mostly because of the Batmobile’s combat that divided fans and persistent technical issues. Even still fans have been waiting for the next chapter in the Arkham games, and judging by those Arkham City numbers, Rocksteady and Warner Bros would be crazy not to deliver a sequel.
This obviously leads to the question — how does it stack up next to the PS4 hit Marvel’s Spider-Man? While we can’t quote numbers exactly, we do know that about a year ago Spider-Man had reached 13 million worldwide. It’s a safe assumption to say the PS4 superhero game retains it title of the best-selling superhero game.
