From the release of titles like The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima, the PS4 finally seems to be winding down in the buildup to the PS5’s release later this year. Given the incredible games that have released for the PS4 over this generation, it remains to be seen what the upcoming next-gen console will be able to offer. However, Sony is preparing to show us just a few more of the games we can expect to play on PS4 for the rest of the year with a new State of Play, but the company is making it clear not to expect any major PS5 news this week at the showcase.
Sony has announced that a new State of Play presentation will be airing this coming Thursday, August 6 at 1pm PT/4pm ET. In an accompanying post on the PlayStation Blog, the company detailed that this presentation will largely focus on upcoming third-party PS4 and PlayStation VR titles, and that there will be “no big PS5 announcements” involving PlayStation Studios’ titles or hardware. The presentation will run for around 40 minutes according to Sony, so we can likely expect quite a few games shown later this week.

With the anticipation for the PS5 building up into the holiday season, it seems that Sony wants to keep expectations in check for this week’s presentation that will mainly show some of the remaining PS4 and PSVR titles coming later this year. However, Sony added that the new State of Play will feature some PS5 presence in the form of “a few PS5 game updates on third-party and indie titles” that were shown during the PS5 reveal event this past June. Presumably this may include some titles shown at the event such as Stray and Goodbye Volcano High, or even the internet’s current obsession Bugsnax.
The PS5 is expected to launch sometime this holiday season, but for now we’re still waiting to hear more information on the system’s price and release date. However, for now you can catch up on everything we know about the PS5 so far.
