A recent post at Reddit has possibly shed some new information about the PS5’s DualSense controller including that its battery life is rumored to last 3 to 4 hours longer than it’s predecessor, the DualShock 4. Reddit user viper_on_fire is the source of the information that included this video of the peripheral which possibly lends some validity to the post. The original post has since been removed but a second-hand account of the information shared by the mysterious Reddit user still remains in the PS5 community.
The extended battery life is possibly due to the lightbar of the DualShock 4 being replaced with a much smaller and dimmer light strip. The removal of the lightbar means that the DualSense won’t work with the PSVR. The controller buttons behave much the same as the DualShock 4, but the touchpad is ”more responsive and clicky.”
They also claim that the L1 and R1 act more like a trigger with a push-down movement replacing the click mechanic of previous PlayStation controllers. The L2 and R2 felt harder to push down than we are used to even without the tension points activated. The Reddit poster mentioned that they hadn’t tested out the haptic feedback or the microphone but we’re hoping to test try them out later.
Viper_on_fire’s other findings were that they felt that the DualSense is much more comfortable than the DualShock 4 and less bulky overall. That’s a bit of a puzzling statement since we can clearly see the DualSense is larger than the DualShock. They go on and say that it is even more comfortable than the Xbox One controller — which will likely remain similar in the Xbox Series X controller.
As we get closer to the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X tons of information is flooding in. This like so many other stories must be taken with a grain of salt until we get a confirmation from Sony, but other rumors suggest that information is coming sooner rather than later.
The PS5 is set to launch sometime in Holiday 2020, though the current date and price point are still unknown.
