The milestone player count was revealed as part of the publisher’s financial results for the second quarter ended June 30.
It’s up from 60 million players reported at the end of the company’s first quarter.
Activision said the free-to-play battle royale game helped drive strong Modern Warfare sales during the second quarter too.
“Modern Warfare added more players outside of a launch quarter to the premium Call of Duty experience than ever before, with the majority coming through upgrades from Warzone,” it said.
Activision also announced on Tuesday that Call of Duty Mobile has surpassed 250 million downloads since releasing in October 2019, and that Treyarch and Raven Software are developing Call of Duty 2020.
Call of Duty Warzone Season 5 is due to start on August 5 and could finally add five-player teams.
As first reported by VGC in July, Season 5 will see the opening of Warzone’s Stadium and the introduction of a train which travels around the Verdansk map.
Season 5 will also introduce new operatives from Shadow Company, an elite private military company with “a framework and agenda all of their own.”
The content will go live on Wednesday, August 5 at 11pm PT / 7am BST and the 36GB patch is already being rolled out as a pre-load for PS4 players.
Developer Infinity Ward recently confirmed that Warzone will eventually tie in with other Call of Duty games beyond Modern Warfare.
