Fans waiting to lace up those virtual sneaks and play some NBA 2K21 in front of an unrealistic virtual crowd don’t have to wait long to give the current-gen version a try. On August 24, 2K is dropping a free demo for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. It will be the perfect opportunity to try out some of the new gameplay features the team implemented.

As mentioned above, the demo date isn’t the only thing the NBA 2K21 team announced today. They’ve also dropped some new notes on all the gameplay changes coming to the current-gen version. As ever, 2K appears to continue to have the best basketball sim in the business. And now veteran players have even more tools to play with.
Notably, the team is freshening up the Pro Stick. It’s been a mainstay of the game for years but hasn’t really seen too many updates. That changes this year, as the team wants to give you more dribble options with the right stick. The expanded selection of your on-the-ball arsenal should please fans of the series. The notes also mention Nate Robinson coming in for some mo-cap, which is very exciting for me, the one guy in the world with Robinson’s OKC Thunder jersey.
They’ve also done some work to update shooting based on the Shot Stick Aiming concept from NBA 2K17. It aims to give players who master the touch of the updated targeting system better shots around the rim. If it works, it sounds like something most competitive players will love.
Fortunately, we don’t have to wait too long to find out for ourselves how well NBA 2K21 plays this season. The free demo launches on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on August 24. The full game drops on September 4, with a next-gen version coming later this year
