PS5 Might Be Able To Identify Users Holding A DualSense

Entering passwords can be a hectic task, be it on a smartphone, online accounts, or on the gaming console. Sony understands that, and might be working on a way to kill passwords when logging in to the PlayStation 5. According to a recently granted patent, DualSense will identify and log in the players to their PlayStation accounts just by the way they hold the controller.

Players tend to access their personal accounts on shared consoles, be it to keep track of their in-game progress, or access personal content or settings. This makes the password susceptible to prying by ill-willing humans. Later, they might also forget to log out from their accounts. In either scenario, the account and sensitive information associated with it is at a huge risk. But if there is no need to enter a text-based password, life would definitely become easier.

The patent, which was submitted in February earlier this year, mentions several sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer) configured within the controller, which work in tandem to identify the player holding it, and eventually log them in to their PlayStation account.

At this point, it is not clear how exactly the system will work. If and when this technology will be available is also not known at the moment.
