Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is aiming to be the most player-friendly entry in the franchise so far, and it’s getting there by offering cross-platform and cross-gen play in all its game modes.
Announced during today’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer reveal, you’ll be able to play with friends regardless of what platform they’re playing on. As long as the name of the game is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, you can play it together. This extends to your personal multiplayer progression as well – no matter what generation console you choose to play on, your experience should be the same.
This follows 2019’s Modern Warfare and its attempt to bring players together with cross-platform play. Considering that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is launching on not just the PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, but also the PS4 and Xbox One, having players that could potentially be left behind because they don’t necessarily need a next-gen console would be disappointing.
Today’s multiplayer reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War also confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone would be arriving in some way. That being said, it’s not clear if the same cross-gen features will also be arriving for Call of Duty‘s battle royale spin-off, although it’s safe to assume the same cross-platform play will be available.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to launch November 13, 2020.
