A black sheep among the mainline Halo titles, ODST puts players into the shoes of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper named Rookie. He, along with other ODSTs are stranded in the Kenyan port of New Mombasa, a massive city left in ruins after the Covenant’s Prophet of Regret launches a slipspace jump. The game takes place immediately after the mission Metropolis in Halo 2. You’re no supersoldier in this title – just a regular army man trapped in an extraordinary situation. A new trailer for the game’s launch on PC shows the ruined cityscape while giving viewers a taste of its iconic somber soundtrack.

A host of other changes are coming to Halo: The Master Chief Collection along with ODST. Besides its campaign, players can also dig into ODST‘s firefight modes, now with more customization than when they originally released with the game on the Xbox 360. And speaking of customization, September 22 will likely also be the launch date for the Master Chief Collection‘s next in-game season. That means new armor and weapon customizations, this time for Halo 3. Temper those expectations though, the only new additions for armor will be different colored visors, not entirely new sets.
Looking towards the future of the Halo franchise, things certainly aren’t as clear. Development on Halo Infinite has hit some bumps, which developer 343 is seeking to remedy by bringing in some more seasoned developers. Halo Infinite was originally going to release alongside the upcoming Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, but has been delayed until 2021.
