As you probably know, the PS5 is releasing with two separate versions. The first being a console that can play both physical and digital games and the second being an all-digital version without a disk drive that is $100 cheaper. It is a great idea for those who want to save a little money and don’t care about building a physical collection. Well, according to the owner of Cheap Ass Gamer, the digital version might not be as hot of a commodity as we thought.
David Abrams tweeted out some numbers regarding pre-orders numbers of the two consoles. He noticed that less than 1% of pre-orders from Cheap Ass Gamer were for the digital version. In fact, he tweeted a pie chart with the numbers.
Let me visualize this for you.

And yes the sample size is large enough to be meaningful IMO. pic.twitter.com/BYkI2cAvWX
First, there is always the possibility that the stock of the digital version was significantly lower than the other. I noticed many people were having major trouble trying to secure a pre-order of the digital version. Plus, David did not share how big the sample size was, but he did say that it is large enough to be meaningful in his opinion.
While the stock could be low, I think it is entirely possible that buyers out there would like to have access to their physical PS4 collection. I am sure there are some people out there that went all digital on the PS4, but I have to bet most owners had some physical titles. Why lock yourself out of playing your old games?
