With less than two months until the launch of both the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S, it makes sense that Microsoft would start to update its current-gen consoles to match its next-gen ones. As of this week, all Xbox One (and its many variants) owners received an update for the Microsoft store that will match the next-gen one when it launches in November.
The new store overhaul was announced on August 3 in a blog post for Xbox Insider, the official site for Xbox press releases as well as updates. The post boasts of three major changes made to the store: it will be faster, easier, and safer.
In terms of speed, Xbox Insider says that the new store will be “more than twice as fast as before.” The updated store is said to be able to launch in under two seconds and the browse performance is “greatly improved.”
For the “easier” aspect, the new layout of the store allows for quick searches as well as adding the ability to see the prices of games while browsing. Here’s their full list of updated features:
With the redesigned search functionality, it’s easier to filter your results.
Guided by your feedback, we rebuilt the Wish List. You can now easily add new games to your Wish List and quickly check your list content (including keeping tabs on any sale pricing for your Wish List items).
The updated shopping cart makes it easier to add items to your cart as well as view the items in your cart before and during purchase.
We’ve also made it easier than ever to shop across four generations of great Xbox content by enabling customers to view pricing while browsing for new Xbox One games and backward compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles, as well as add these games to your Wish List or shopping cart.
Finally, the safety updates have been made with family settings in mind. Depending on which profile is browsing the store, content restricted for more mature audiences will not be shown. For example, Xbox Insider says that “a child with content filters set for an 8-year old will not be able to view content in the store that is rated for a teenager.”
