Remember those days of sitting on Facebook, being poked by your pals, and then a notification pops up to inform you that a forgotten family member wants you to visit their farm or something in Farmville? Well, after 11 years, developer Zynga has announced that the game will be shutting down on Facebook due to Adobe’s support for Flash Player ending at the end of this year.
Back in 2017, Adobe announced that is would stop distributing and updating Adobe Flash Player after December 31, 2020. With the end of life lingering nearer, Zynga published an announcement (Thanks, PCGamesN) detailing the next steps for the future of the game. The original game itself will be closing down on Facebook along with any other games on Facebook that use Flash.
Zynga has revealed that players can still make use of in-app purchases up until November 17, and then past that date, the payment system is being turned off. In-app purchases and refunds will not be processed after this date. Despite the payment method being turned off, those wanting to make the most of their time left with Farmville, they’ll be able to play the game up until December 31, 2020.
Players are advised to spend their in-game credits before that date, and there are the developer is planning a bunch of in-game activities to keep players enjoying their last few months before the game dies out.
Zynga has been behind some of the most notable mobile/Facebook games I can remember in my early Facebook days. Draw Something, Boggle with Friends, Words with Friends, and more.
It’s not all doom and gloom though as players can still play Farmville 2: Tropic Escape and they can also expect to see the upcoming Farmville 3 arriving on mobile devices in the future.
