Sometimes, just beating a game isn’t enough. You have to complete everything – and I mean everything. Earning a Platinum Trophy on PlayStation titles is like a badge of honor, and seeing that change reflected in the trophy library is essential. However, some parts of that experience are changing very soon. A post on the PlayStation Blog details some of the changes coming to the console’s achievement system, including a new way to measure player’s trophy levels.
Trophy levels, which measure the total number of Trophies you’ve accumulated across your PlayStation titles, are being totally revamped. Instead of being measured on a scale from one to 100, that limit is being scaled all the way back to 999. Of course, this new system means your current Trophy level is going to change. The example given in today’s blog post says “if your current Trophy level is 12, your new level will jump to somewhere in the low 200’s.” The math on that isn’t exactly clear, but it doesn’t look like progressing up the Trophy level ladder will take any longer than it does now.
This new Trophy level system is being implemented to be more “optimized and rewarding,” according to today’s post. “Players will progress quicker through the early levels, and levels will increase more consistently.” Platinum Trophies will also give your Trophy level a bigger boost, giving players an extra reason to play their games until there’s nothing left.
New icons for Trophy levels are also being added in this update. They come in the same standards as Trophies, from bronze to platinum, but evolve as you progress through each rank. Reaching the Platinum Trophy level won’t be easy though – it requires an overall level of 999, the last rung of the ladder.
Updates to the trophy system are coming within the next 24 hours. North American users can expect them later tonight while European users will have their Trophy levels changed tomorrow.
