While the game will be playable at launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S, the fully optmised version with increased resolution and higher framerates won’t arrive until post-launch, the game’s developer said on Thursday.
Bungie confirmed that Destiny 2 will run at 4K/60fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, while the Xbox Series S version will run at 1080p/60fps.
There will be noticeable improvements to things like loading the game and inspecting character inventory, Bungie said. However, some load times are dependent on networking and matchmaking.
In addition, Field of View customization will be added to consoles for the first time and cross-generation play will allow Xbox Series X / S players to play with Xbox One players, and PlayStation 5 players to play with PlayStation 4 players.
“We’re excited for you to experience these enhancements for yourself and we’ll share more next generation details in the future,” Bungie said.
Destiny 2’s Beyond Light expansion is set to launch on November 10 alongside Xbox Series X and S.
Also starting on November 10, certain game locations and related content will move into the Destiny Content Vault. This will help Bungie manage and support the game, it said in June, with the plan being to cycle out older content and reintroduce it at later dates.
